April 2nd, 2011.
As I'm writing this, I am extremely sick. I was ill earlier this week, but I couldn't shake the sickness off, and it just hit me more severely. I'm bedridden and forced to sweat it out as I sleep. That gives me plenty of time to dream.
Before I dive into the most prominent dream I've had lately, I have to explain some things. Primarily, the Slenderman and the Midnight Man; both myths as far as I know.
The Slenderman is a monster thought to have abducted children and haunted adults. It's described as an abnormally-tall bald man with tentacle-hands and a tuxedo. I don't believe the Slenderman exists I heard his existence was born on internet forums, but the topic always sends chill up and down my spine. In my dream, he looked essentially the same (tall, faceless), but he may have developed fingers or a mouth along the way.
Now, the Midnight Man is a little different, but creepy all the same. My friend's sister explained it to me. There is a pagan ritual meant to punish those who break an oath or displease the gods, and this is called the Midnight Game. The participant fulfills some requirements, thenwhen the steps are completethey invite the Midnight Man inside their home. With nothing but a candle, the person must walk around the dark house, trying to avoid the Midnight Man until 3:33am. If the candle blows out, it means he is closeby, and it needs to be relit immediately. If one can't relight the candle, they must surround themselves in a circle of salt. If one fails to do both things and the Midnight Man finds them, he will possess them. He will propel them into a hallucination of their worst fear, and they will remain in that state until the ending time (3:33).
They say this game can end with mental scarring, and even death. Again, I have doubts that the Midnight Man is real, but I would never be curious enough to play the Midnight Game myself.
The monster in my dream was a mixture of these two concepts. It took on the form of the Slenderman, but instead of devouring his victims, he possessed them and placed them in a darker world. If he caught you in that world as well, he would finally kill you. A two-part game, a match for survival. You were safe if he decided to go for another victim, or if you stepped/sat in a pinnacle constructed of salt.
With that said, it's about time I started my dream.
